Detailed itinerary of 4 Days Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Manyara Safari
Day 1: Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
This 4 Days Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Manyara Safari starts with pick up from your hotel or at Kilimanjaro International Airport upon arrival and embark on a journey to Ngorongoro.
The drive takes you across the Ardai Plains and via the scenic areas of Karatu and the village of “Mto wa Mbu” which leads you up the Western Wall of the Rift Valley and onto Ngorongoro. Proceed to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will go for a Crater Rim Walk where you will have a closer encounter with wildlife such as giraffes, elands and zebras among others.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater Tour
After breakfast, you will board your vehicle and descend the down walls of the world’s largest caldera with your packed lunch for a full day of game and sightseeing on the crater floor.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the crater has a global importance for biodiversity conservation due to the presence of globally threatened species. The density of wildlife inhabiting the area and the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra, gazelles and other animals into the northern plains.
During the game drive in the crater you have a chance to spot lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, cheetahs, hyenas and several antelope and bird species. At Lake Magadi found in the corner of the crater, you will see flocks of flamingoes on the shores of the lake.
After the game drive, you will have a visit to the Olduva Gorge site, here extensive archaeological research has also yielded a long sequence of evidence of human evolution and human – environment dynamics including early hominid footprints dating back 3.6 million years.
Day 3: Drive to Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, check out of lodge and depart from Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area for Lake Manyara National Park. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge after check-in, later in the day you will go for an afternoon game drive in the park until 1800 hrs.
Lake Manyara National Park is famous for the tree-climbing lions which are occasionally seen resting on the branches of Acacia trees, you will also visit Lake Manyara where you will see large flocks of thousands of pink flamingoes. More than 400 species of birds inhabit in the park and many remain throughout the year.
Some of the animals to lookout for during the game drive in Lake Manyara National Park include hippos, giraffes, zebras, impalas, bushbucks, baboons and leopards which make the park their home.
Day 4: Departure
After breakfast, check out of your lodge and drive back to Arusha with optional lunch served at a restaurant followed by a transfer to either your hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport to catch your departure flight.
