Loisaba Conservancy – Laikipia is an unspoiled wilderness destination and a private conservancy situated in the wilderness of Laikipia, the conservancy covers an area of 56,000 acre of a wildlife conservancy and working ranch and it is located in the Northern Laikipia.

Loisaba Conservancy comprises of two rivers and abundant springs, its vast landscape stretches to the horizon demonstrating magnificent, breathtaking views unlike any other place in Kenya.

Loisaba Conservancy is a key migration corridor for elephants, the conservancy is a home to the second largest population of elephants in Kenya with over 800 of the species roaming across the land and acts as a Key migration corridor for the movement of the elephants.

The population of cats in the Loisaba Conservancy continue to thrive with numerous cheetah and leopard sightings discovered in the conservancy.

Wildlife

Loisaba Conservancy is situated in one of the largest migratory routes for wildlife in Kenya, the conservancy hosts over 800 elephants, countless buffaloes and the rare Grevy’s zebras which migrate across this land every year in search for green pastures.

Loisaba Conservancy also supports over 250 bird species and over 50 mammal species, in the conservancy there are 3 lion prides, a small but growing numbers of cheetahs, leopards and a rare breed of wild dogs which are long considered to be extinct in most parts of Kenya.

WHAT TO DO IN LOISABA CONSERVANCY

Game drives

Game drives are one of the best ways to view wildlife in the conservancy and they are done in a safari converted Land Rover, game drives are done either early in the morning or in the afternoon. All visitors must be escorted by professional guides from Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association, these guides are qualified and will take you across the open plains , through the central scrub area or along the river.

During the game drives, you will spot a variety of wildlife including prides of lions, cheetahs, elusive leopards, zebras among others.

Bush walks

Bush walks in Loisaba Conservancy are a great way to explore the conservancy on foot, on this experience you will be accompanied by your guide as well as ranger whose knowledge of local flora, fauna and history is unmatched.

Horse Raiding

Horse riding in Loisaba Conservancy is a unique exhilarating experience offering you an opportunity to explore the plains with a herds of zebras and the graceful tower of giraffes and past herds of elephants.

Camel Riding

Camel riding is the tradition mode of transport in the drylands of Northern Kenya and is another great way to explore and experience Loisaba Conservancy.

BEST TIME TO VISIT LOISABA CONSERVANCY

Loisaba Conservancy is an excellent year round destination with resident animals always present, however the best time to visit the conservancy is during the dry season.

Like any other safari destination or area in Kenya, Laikipia has two dry seasons and two rainy seasons.

  • The long, cool dry season is from July to October and this is the best time to visit Laikipia and Loisaba conservancy, because of lack of water, animals tend to gather around water sources and are more easily found in the conservancy.
  • July to October – is the high season in Loisaba Conservancy, because of the limited accommodations, this means visitors should book their accommodation further in advance.
