DETAILED ITINERARY OF 12 DAYS TANZANIA FAMILY SAFARI

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Nyerere National Park

On arrival in Dar es Salaam, you will meet our representative who will also be your safari guide and transfer to Nyerere National Park. Along the way you will enjoy the scenic views of the country’s landscape and have lunch along the way, arrive in the late afternoon and with en-route game drive. You will head to your lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 – 4: explore Nyerere National Park 

Spend these days exploring Nyerere National Park a haven for safari goers and an adventurous paradise.

Nyerere National Park is one the largest national parks in Africa and in The park boasts with the largest and undisturbed wildlife populations offering an unrivalled safari experience. During the game drives in the park, you will encounter over 400 bird species, more than half of Tanzania’s elephant populations, over 120,000 buffaloes, over 40,000 hippos and 4,000 lions which is probably the largest populations of lions in the world. Nyerere National Park is also home to the largest population of rare wild dogs on the planet which you will enjoy watching during the game drives, the best spot to see them is along the banks of the Rufiji River and in the savannah plains.

Day 5: fly to Ruaha National Park

After breakfast, checkout out of your camp and head to the airstrip for your domestic flight to Ruaha National Park. Upon landing at Msembe Airstrip you will be picked by our guide and transfer to your camp, after lunch you will head to the park for a game drive. In the evening you will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 6 -8: explore Ruaha National Park 

Spend three full days in Ruaha National Park exploring the scenic landscape which is more desert-like conditions, savannah flats, rocky outcrops and surreal baobab trees.

Ruaha National Park boasts the largest population of elephants estimated to be over 12,000 which you will spot during the game drives, other animals to look out for include Grant’s gazelles, elands, oribis, giraffes, zebras, impalas, roan antelopes, sable and lesser kudu, waterbucks, huge population of cape buffaloes, large prides of lions with over 20 individuals among others.

You will enjoy picnic lunch set at numerous picnic sites in the parks.

Walking safaris are available offering you a chance to explore the park on foot, you will be rewarded with close-up sights of nature and wildlife. On the walking safari, you will be able to explore the areas of the park that can not be reached by a safari vehicle.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Fly to Zanzibar

After breakfast, you will checkout of your lodge and transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar.

Upon arrival at Zanzibar Airport, you will be met by a driver and be transported to your resort where you will spend the days of this Tanzania family holiday. You will stay at Baraza Resort & Spa located on the Michamvi Peninsula on the eastern coast of the island along a long stretch of white sandy beach.

During your stay, you will enjoy the stunning sandy beach, sheltered lagoon, swimming pool, a children club for the children on the holiday and a water sports center. The resort also has baby sitting and child-minding service.

Day 10 – 11: Relax and enjoy Zanzibar

There are many activities you will do during your stay, soak up the sun, sea and sand. For keen water sport lovers you will explore the underwater world. Along the beach at one of Baraza’s sister properties there is a PADI dive center where novices can learn to dive and more experienced divers can explore the outer reefs off the east coast. It is possible to do day trips from here to some of the best dive sites off the southwest coast, however it is a long drive up to the vest diving site in the Matemwe area to the northeast of the island.

Kayaks are also available, on this activity you will explore the lagoons and snorkeling to explore the inside of the reef situated in front of the lodge more so on low tide. You can also do a day trip in Stone Town or tour the south including Jozani Forest and some of the small islands to the southwest.
