4 days Uganda Gorilla and Golden Monkey safari is a Uganda primate adventure to Uganda’s smallest national park, Mgahinga Gorilla national park. The park is located in the South western corner of Uganda and situated in the Virunga Conservation Area, the area is dominated by Virunga volcanoes which are shared by Uganda, Rwanda and DR.Congo.
On this safari of 4 days you will explore the jungle of Mgahinga Gorilla national park encountering the critically endangered mountain gorillas and the beautiful golden monkeys. You can also extend your adventure by visiting the Batwa local people on the Batwa Trail on which you will learn how the co-existed with wild animals in the forests.

Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days Uganda Gorilla and Golden Monkey Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Upon landing at Entebbe International airport or after breakfast at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe, you will be picked by your safari – driver guide and transfer to Kisoro in south western Uganda at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes.
Along the way you will have lunch in Mbarara and proceed to the park while enjoying views of the terraced hills of Kisoro and the country side of Uganda, arrive in the park in the evening, check into your lodge for dinner and over as you prepare for the next day’s encounter with the endangered mountain gorilla on gorilla trekking experience.
Alternatively, you can take a flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro airstrip. Due to weather conditions of Kisoro Area, there are only morning flights.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla national park
Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park’s headquarters for a pre-trekking briefing session in which a game ranger will take you through the rules and regulations to be followed during the trek. In groups of 8 people you will trek in to the jungle looking for mountain gorillas led by an armed ranger and guide, the trek takes approximately 4-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorilla family with 1 hour of being in the presence of mountain gorillas.
You will watch the gorillas feed, interact with each other and take amazing pictures of them, you are advised to switch your flashlight off.
You will then descend back to the briefing point where you will meet your guide and head back to your lodge for an evening of resting, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park
After breakfast, you will head to park’s headquarters for briefing about golden monkey trekking from the ranger guide who will share with you information on what to expect while in the Virunga volcanoes while searching for the golden monkeys.
When you located the golden monkeys in their big troops, you will spend one hour in their presence while watching them feed on bamboo shoots and other fruits, ants and vegetation. Then will trek back to the park’s headquarters and head back to the lodge, in the evening you can go for an optional visit to the Batwa people where you will learn about their local lifestyle and how they survived in the forests.

Day 4: Departure
After breakfast, you will checkout of your lodge and transfer back to Kampala, along the way you will have en-route lunch in Mbarara. Arrive in the evening, be dropped off either at your hotel or airport for your departure flight back home.
If you are using a flight, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Entebbe International airport.
