Camping Sites in Ol Pejeta 2022 : The Ol Pejeta conservancy is a360 km2 (140 sq mi) not for profit wildlife conservancy in central Kenya’s Laikipia County. Its situated on the equator west of Nanyuki, between the foothills of the Aberdares and mount Kenya. Ol Pejeta is one of the prime sanctuaries of Laikipia platea and all of the Big five are present, its highlights include the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa; a population of southern white rhino; refuge for last two northern white rhino left in the world; and Sweetwater chimpanzee sanctuary, housing orphaned and abandoned chimpanzees to thrill while on Wildlife Kenya Safari.

Ol Pejeta camping facilities.

All campsites are fitted with clean camp toilets, dustbins and fire pits. However the guests have to carry their own tents and sleeping bags. Campers are also provided with water and firewood for their duration of their stay.

The Ol Pejeta conservancy offers five unique campsites which are booked exclusively.

Hippo Hide Campsite.

Situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River visitors to this campsite get nature enjoying wild scenic views. The campsite is located a few meters from the hippo hide walkway making it easy for campers to take relaxing walks along the river bank while viewing hippos in their natural habitat.

Murera Donga campsite.

This secluded campsite surrounded by acacia trees is situated next to the marsh area in the conservancy which is due to the lush vegetation attracts wildlife throughout the year. The dense bush surrounding the camp opens into grassland and provides a great environment for variety of wildlife species adding to the beauty of campsite.

Esawo campsite.

Hidden behind bushy vegetation and acacia trees, this campsite on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River is a serene haven offering magnificent views of elephants and other wildlife species as they gather across the river for water.

Ngobit campsite.

This is situated in the wilderness area along the Ngobit River visitors to this campsite will find peace and solitude to rejuvenate the soul and enjoy wonderful game drivers where only few vehicles venture.

Olerai campsite.

Its located along the Ewaso Nyiro River, Olereai has the two unique features; one being a little island that’s a perfect for a sundowner and other an extended river ideal for fishing. It’s regularly frequented by herds of elephants and impalas.

Ol Pejeta experiences a mild climate and has consistently good camping making any time of year an exciting one for your safari. The best months to camp are September, October, when it’s dry, there’s incredible game viewing and the summer holidays crowds have dispersed. Dry seasons are suitable for camping and good for game viewing in the Ol pejeta conservancy.

How to get to Ol pejeta conservancy.

Ol pejeta can be reached by both road and air means.

Air transport, there is charter and domestic flights. Charter flights are flights that operates on the basis of rented; while domestic flights are flights that do not leave the country.

The easiest way to get to Ol Pejeta is to take one of the daily scheduled flights from Nairobi to Nanyuki airstrip which is a 45 minute drive away. It’s possible to charter flight from any other park to to Ol Pejeta’s airstrip which is currently only open to charter flights. Charter flights are usually booked by tour operators as part of their tour package.

Road transport;  If  you’re coming from Nairobi, the drive will take about 3-4 hours. The road from Nairobi to Nanyuki is tarmacked although there are parts under construction with the new dual carriage set to reduce the drive to less than 3 hours in the future. Keep in mind that the last 13 kilometers to Ol Pejeta is well maintained all weather road.

Ol Pejeta is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and home to two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos. It is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees, in a sanctuary established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. It has some of the highest predator densities in Kenya, and still manages Avery successful livestock programs. Ol Pejeta also seeks to support the people living around its borders, to ensure wildlife conservation translates to better education, health care and infrastructure for the next generation of wildlife guardians.
