Umoja camp Samburu National Reserve
Umoja camp is a budget accommodation found at Nanyuki-Masarbit road near the entrance of Samburu national park just 7 km away, in the Kenya Region. The camp is situated near Archers post town in Samburu County, 2 km from the center and 5 km away from Marti Lgirgir Plateau.
The camp is situated a 16 minutes’ walk from the catholic mission. Umoja camp is an all-female village camp that was built to protect women without resources, widows, and victims of violence and is owned and managed by the community. The camp is sitting on 14 acres of landscape along ewaso River with beautiful views of the river and surrounding areas.
One can be at the lodge by road transport, which takes approximately 5-6 hours drive from Nairobi to Samburu national park and air transport it takes an hour flying from Nairobi to the close Samburu airstrip then a few minutes to be transferred to the airstrip.
Umoja camp consists of 12 self contained and well-serviced spacious and comfortable cottages overlooking the river which reflects the local building style with grass-thatched roofs . They also offer camps for camping lovers, i.e., tents hosting a maximum of 30 people.
Rooms are well furnished with private en –suite facilities of Clean flushing toilets , separate showers, mosquito nets, wooden chairs and tables, complementary bottled water , solar energy, etc. Tents have balconies and sitting areas; you relax while enjoying the stunning view over the River Ewaso Nyiro, wildlife especially crocodiles on the riverbank and surrounding areas.
Tents are equipped with excellent and comfortable clean bedding with queen-sized beds. There are campfires at the camp where guests sit and relax as they share experiences about the Kenya Wildlife safari and it also provides warmth to visitors during nights at the lodges. Tents are in different categories and sizes in single, double, twin and triple/family tents, and rooms cost $100 per night and above (note that high season rate is different from low season rate)

Samburu national park is among the lesser-known parks and the smallest park found in the northern part, near the Ewaso Ng’iro river in Samburu country in Kenya. The park occupies a total area of 165square kilometers and is 345 km from Nairobi. Samburu country is found in the former rift valley of Kenya. The park is the home of various animals over 200 mammals like; Giraffes, Buffaloes , Elephants , Big cats, leopards, lions, zebras Warthogs , olive baboons etc. and 390 species of birds, which include sunbirds, bee –eaters , sunbirds, Tawny Eagles , Grey headed kingfishers, Yellow-billed hornbill and many more birds.
