Why Semuliki should be your next Uganda safari destination? There is a good reason why Uganda is referred to as the pearl of Africa. Some of the world’s best national parks and nature reserves, including Bwindi Impenetrable, Mgahinga, Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, and Kidepo Valley, are located within its lush, rolling landscapes. The majority of tourists visiting Uganda stay in the parks mentioned above. Most tourists visiting Uganda bypass Semuliki National Park and Semliki Wildlife Reserve in favour of travelling from Fort Portal to Murchison Falls.

Situated between Lake Albert to the northeast and the Rwenzori Mountains to the southwest, the Semuliki Valley is home to these lush and productive regions. Idiotically lush and teeming with local culture, this tropical lowland would be a mistake to miss.

Semuliki National Park.
This Small Park is only 220 km², or 85 miles², in size, but it has a lot of influence. It is home to more than 440 bird species and 50 mammal species. Visitors can stretch their legs and take in the varied flora and fauna while strolling along one of the three nature trails. A path leads to the Sempaya Hot Springs, where boiling hot geothermal water emerges from the earth at 103 degrees Celsius. The male and female hot springs are the two primary characteristics of the hot springs.

The locals refer to the male hot springs as Mumbugu. Those who placate the male gods with offerings are said to be blessed with prosperity. The locals refer to the female hot springs as Nyasimbi. Women from the area who need help with infertility often visit it.

There’s one ‘small’ thing about the wildlife here that makes Semliki special its diminutive size. Some of the animals in this wildlife reserve are smaller than typical African wildlife.

Semliki feels as though it could be on a different planet, with its tiny forest elephants with their tiny tusks pointing straight down, pygmy hippos and antelope, and dwarfed forest buffalo compared to the Cape buffalo. Additionally, Semliki’s close proximity to Lake Albert makes it a great place for boating safaris.
