Accommodations inside the Mara Triangle  : Mara triangle is one of the conservancies of The Great Mara Area and the best place to view the dramatic River crossing the most sought for stage of the Great migration, the Mara Triangle is located in the Southwest Kenya and lies between the mighty Mara River and the Western Oloololo Escarpment and is accessed through Oloololo gate or by through the New Mara Bridge.

Mara Triangle spans across 510 square kilometers, this area is a gem in the rough as it is a home to large populations of wildlife all year round. Some of the animals found in the vast open plains of Mara Triangle include hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, wildebeests, zebras, lions, elephants, hippos, cape buffaloes among others.

During the river crossing of the Great annual migration, Mara Triangle is one of the most visited sites of the Great Mara Triangle to witness the breathing crossing. Though Mara Triangle is visited by thousands of tourists, there are only 2 accommodations situated inside and these include

Mara Serena Safari Lodge offers sophisticated accommodation in beautiful rooms designed with inspiration by a traditional Maasai Manyatta, the lodge boast uninterrupted views of the Mara River. The lodge has a total of 74 guest rooms including a suite inspired by the local Maasai heritage and surrounding natural splendour, the rooms offer Sweeping River and savannah views. The guest rooms are adorned in swirling patterns reflecting the colours and shapes of the bush, there is also Maasai – inspired design – motifs, king or twin beds, mosquito – curtaining and marble bathrooms with walk in showers.

Little Governor’s Camp is an intimate luxury camp with only 17 luxury en-suite tents tucked around a large watering hole teeming with both birds and wildlife, the camp is situated in a prime location that is on the edge of the Masai Mara national reserve in the Northern part in the Mara Triangle.

Little Governor’s Camp is located in the Riverine Forest around a watering hole cross the Mara River with magnificent views across to the Olololo Escarpment, the camp is  accessed a very boat ride across the Mara river, then an escorted walk through the riverine forest. Tourist vehicles are left on the far river bank and therefore the camp is always quiet and undisturbed.

Little Governor Camp

Accommodation at Little Governor’s Camp is offered in 17 luxury en-suite tents, these tents are identical and stretch out along the edge of the marsh from close to the main areas to about 250 meters away. All of these tents are the same layout and size approximately 3 meters internal width similar to the tents at main Governor’s camp, the plinth of each of these tents is laid with polished floorboards, a covering thet extends, with the odd rug through the bedroom area. Furnishings in these tents are simple and they include director’s chair, a folding veranda table, a luggage rack, a small dressing and writing table, the furniture gives a more temporary impression which is contrary to the permanent camp infrastructure present since the late 1970s.

Each tent has en-suite bathroom featuring red tiles and rather dark through the half-height wooden wall, these tiles have maintained their original varnish instead of being repainted cream. The tents are powered by New Solar Energy System and there are new solar heaters providing hot water and power sockets in the tents are always on. For filtered drinking water, the camp introduced an excellent reverse osmosis purification system and there is a tent in each tent thus Accommodations inside the Mara Triangle.


At Little Governors’ Camp is served at a variety of scenic dining locations for guests to enjoy their meals from

  • Lunch is served in the shade of one the African ebony trees
  • Dinner is served by fireside beneath the stars

From each location a guest chooses to have their meals, guests will enjoy lovely natural surrounding and the hippos, buffaloes and even a warthog family enjoying a stroll around the camp.

Little Governor’s camp offers full English breakfast buffet each morning complete with fruit, cereals, pastries, bread and other tasty treats. Lunch is served buffet – style and generally includes a variety of tasty dishes such as curries, moussaka, rice, baked breads and a salad buffet with your choice of salad ingredients and dressings. At the end, a lovely dessert is always waiting. Dinners are always a delightful retreat consisting of meat, fish or vegetarian meal option, with dishes such as the roasted pumpkin quiche, a Mongolian barbecue, a vegetable risotto and desserts such as a sticky banana cake with toffee sauce or a Kenyan cheese platter.
