At this stage, these four northern white rhinos were the last of seven alive and all previous breeding attempts in the zoo had failed.
Three years ago the rhinos arrived at Ol Pejeta.Suni was seen mating with Najin, unfortunately after 16 months there no baby rhinos. Shortly after a southern white male was introduced to Najin and Fatu hoping for an off spring but again the efforts were proved fruitless. In late 2014, Suni died of natural causes leaving Sudan as the last remaining northern white rhino.
At this stage the future of this subspecies depends on the development of in vitro fertilization techniques and stem cell technology, complicated and costly procedures that been before been attempted in rhinos.

By road means. The drive to Ol pejeta conservancy from Nairobi take about three to four hours. The last 13km to ol pejeta is dirt, and 4 times 4 vehicles are essential in the rainy season. From Nakuru/Naivasha, use the Nyahururu and Nyeri route to enter Ol Pejeta through Nanyuka, about 6.5km after the Nanyuki airstrip, there is asign to Ol Pejeta on the left and it is labeled all the way to Rongai gate of the conservancy.
